| Personal History | James Conway was born into a loving family. His mother and father were prominent Federation scientists; he had one younger sister. However, his Utopian life changed for the worst in 2346 when a failing power reactor claimed the life of both his parents and his 1 year old sister. James was the only survivor as he was spending the day at his preschool. James having no other living relatives was sent into the foster system and adopted by a young couple on Earth. As he grew up, he grew to resent his foster parents in light of what his life with his biological parents could have offered him. He spent a rough youth in frequent confrontations with local law enforcement. However, his life made a complete turn around one week after graduating high school. He spent his teen years getting into trouble with his best friend Thomas Moore. James had no immediate plans, however, Thomas was scheduled to attend Star Fleet Academy the following fall. To celebrate their recent accomplishment, Conway and Moore went out racing. A terrible accident occurred resulting in the death of Thomas. After recovering from his grief, Conway signed up for service in Thomas' place. Through his 4 years of the Academy, Conway never once crossed the authorities or his superiors. He graduated with honors and was immediately sent to field duty. Due to the rising conflict with the Dominion, James was assigned to the carrier variant USS Endeavor. His quick reflexes and solid instincts lead to several commendations and the respect of his superiors. Within the opening seconds of the First Battle of Chin'toka, the Endeavor was incapacitated and the Wing Commander was killed. The Wing XO panicked and was eliminated shortly thereafter. Facing the collapse of his unit, Conway took charge. Despite the failure of the battle, Conway won a personal and career victory. Before the next engagement, Conway received a field promotion and given official command of his unit where he spent the rest of the war. Tired of constant deployment and lack of stability, Conway applied and was accepted into Star Fleet R&D as a test fighter pilot. James quickly acclimated to the new post, however, a design flaw in a prototype caused a control failure and Conway was forced to crash land it on the emergency landing platform. The fighter was wrecked and Conway lost all control of his legs. It was a long, painful process for Conway to recover. To avoid being discharged, he attended Command College to continue his recovery. Upon successful graduation, Conway found a new career path. He was promoted to Commander and served as executive officer aboard the USS Venture. After a successful tour there, he was promoted to Captain and given his first command. Due to his exemplary record and experience with experimental technology, he took command of the Defiant class USS Relentless, the first ship to be fitted with a cloaking device after the Romulan-Federation treaty was amended. After a successful, yet eventful tour aboard the Relentless, Conway returned to Star Fleet R&D. He was consulting on a new project, a space-based carrier. The Essex Project was the next phase in development for the fighter corp. However, when the project was put on hold, Conway was given his choice of commands. He requested the USS Relentless. |
