Physical Description Besides being short Kaylee is an averaged sized woman with an average body. Her appearance doesn't scream "super fit" but there is more to her than a first glance will tell. Endurance, reflexes and a bit of speed is what she excels at, not brute strength. Mostly smiles, she does nothing to hide her emotions and can often be read like a book by just the expression on her face. She wears the on duty uniform almost exclusively, though she does like to switch things up a bit and can almost always be counted on to "tweak" the uniform a bit. As she keeps her hair long, she always keeps it pulled up, mostly in braids and even when she is off duty.

Personality & Traits

General Overview Kaylee is a strange sort of character. At first meeting she is best described as rather nervous and quite shy; but put her at the helm and that all disappears. Behind in the helm she is confident, daring and even a bit mischievous.

Outside of the helm that shyness is just the surface. Get to know her and everything changes. She's quirky, fun loving and friendly. For those that earn her trust and respect, Kaylee will be forever loyal even when that means death. She will not hesitate to take risks and push things to the limits, though mostly just for fun. On the bad side she has a slight problem with authority and doesn't like being bossed around, specially when it comes to her job.

Personal History Kaylee Evalyn Harwel was born on a small Federation agricultural colony to John and Nancy Harwel. By the time she was three the planet fell into conflict which resulted in the destruction of the colony and the deaths of many of its inhabitants. Among the deceased was her mother. Her father however, was never found and simply assumed dead by the Federation, though Kaylee still refuses to believe his death. By the time the Federation arrived the fighting had ended and Kaylee had taken to another orphan. A six year old boy by the name of Adrian Ruthel. The two were inseparable, so when Kaylee was taken to her only living relative, Adrian came along.

They were taken to Earth via Starship to live with Kaylee's grandfather, Lucious Harwel. He was an cooky old man and a retired Starfleet officer, who spent his days traveling the world to run his old fashioned cattle ranches and occasionally giving a guest lecture to Starfleet Cadets. He, of course, brought Kaylee and Adrian everywhere; even once to the Starfleet Academy, where they sat though a rather amusing lecture on the perils of replicator food. Silly as the old man was he never let them stray from their studies, and pushed the two to follow their dreams; his own being that Kaylee and Adrian would become Starfleet officers.

Kaylee adopted the idea of being in Starfleet at a young age, since she wanted nothing more than to make her grandfather proud. Besides she had discovered her passion on the trip to the Academy, flying. Driving, piloting, flying, navigating, she loved every bit of it and developed quite a knack for it. She started by mapping the ranches and then moved on to piloting everything possible. When she was finally old enough she enrolled in Starfleet which lead to quite the fight between herself and Adrian, who hated her choice. As close as the two had been the fight ended it all and the two parted ways. Since then they have had no contact and except for the occasional comment by Lucious, who still tries to get the two to make up.

During her years at the Academy Kaylee furthered her love of navigation and her hate of authority. While she received top marks in her classes her record with was far from clean. Instead it recorded time after time of uniform tweaks, mischief, backtalk and even a few where she blatantly ignored her superiors. Mostly her infractions were minor things, nothing that would cause injury or even death. Though one incident stands out, where she disobeyed a superior on a training run and several were injured. When questioned Kaylee stubbornly maintained that had she followed orders someone would have ended up dead instead of just injured, though the accident was still ruled to be her fault.

She graduated young and with top marks in the classes, but she was ranked lower becuase of her overall behavior at the Academy. Her first station and longest stay was on a medical ship, where after only a few months she got into a fight with the Captain and was transferred to another ship. From there her career went downhill, with more fights and fewer ships willing to take her on. Though one thing remained in her favor, no one could come up with a single negative thing about her navigation skills and because of those skills she managed to advance through the ranks. Her latest ship she had managed to stay on for almost two months, and barely annoy the Captain since she was trying to be on her best behavior so that she could gain a higher rank and no longer have to listen to superiors.

Finally the Captain of her ship managed to get her transferred to the USS Relentless. Hearing this her grandfather pulled some strings to get her promoted to Chief Flight Control Officer, hoping that having the top position in her department would help with her behavior.
