In The Dark

For such a small ship, Conway found the Relentless was particularly difficult to navigate with her primary and secondary systems out. After a long struggle back and almost tripping over several technicians, he made it to the Bridge once more. He turned on his ankles and looked behind him. His XO had disappeared. Who knew where he went, but the Commander certainly had other things to take care of. So, it was time for Conway to get his hands dirty.

Laying next to the tactical station, he found a fresh engineering kit. According to the damage reports, the overload took out the power transfer node at the back of the bridge. Replacing it would be no challenge. So, Conway set to work. He liked getting his hands dirty, especially with this ship. With such a small crew but just as many demands as any other ship, he had to.

He set his torch on the deck and found the release for the wall pannel. Setting the metal cover aside, he looked at the burnt out circuit. Its specific features were difficult to make out. He moved the torch closer then saw all the charred connections, burnt out circutry, and the tell tale signs of a fire that had burned not long before.

It took a plasma torch to cut apart the power node. Its pathways had been fused to the lines running throughout the ship. He gave the damage circuit one swift tug; it didn't budge. He tried again using a pannel behind him for leverage. This time, the node came free. Now, Conway had a good look at what damage had actually been done. Thankfully, other than the power transfer node itself, the lines were intact. The remaining damage seemed only cosmetic. Conway breathed a quick sigh of relief. He hoped the rest of the ship was just as fortunate.

Conway turned around to find the replacement node setting next to the Tactical Station where his engineering kit was before. It was a quick exercise from this point to put the new node into place, secure the power transfer lines to it, and spin up the node. Within less than 20 minutes, in the dark no less, the Captain managed to repair the damage to the bridge power transfer network. Conway slapped his hands together, shaking the ashes from his them. He wasn't ashamed to say he was proud of himself. With his work complete, Conway and the power transfer node could only wait for the main power systems to be restored.
